Capuchin Monkeys - Housing

Capuchin Monkeys are very active and energetic. When kept in captivity, they require a rather large cage. If possible, they should be allowed to spend time outdoors as well. As foraging is a very important and necessary activity, some foraging mix or seeds tossed in straw will provide Capuchin Monkeys with calming activity in the cage. In order to activate the cage space and make it closer to the animal's natural environment, use swings, perches, or walkways. A child's pool is perfect in hot weather.

Capuchin Monkeys - Types

There are 30 species of capuchin-like monkeys and 4 types of Capuchin Monkeys. Each species is known to have its own unique behavioral pattern. Color varies greatly between the different species. The four species of Capuchin Monkeys are the following: white-faced (also called white-throated or black and white Capuchin), cinnamon (or white-fronted), wedge-capped (weeper), and black-capped (brown, tufted). The body, hands and feet of the White-faced Capuchin Monkey are black. Their face is white with a cap of black hair on the head. In Cinnamon Capuchins, the hair around the face is a sandy color. The body hair is of a cinnamon or brownish color. Wedge-capped Capuchins got their name because of the "wedge" running from the cap down the forehead to the nose. Black-capped Capuchin Monkeys have a black face, black hands and feet. Their body is brown, with a lighter color around the face. They are the largest of all the Capuchin Monkeys.
